The Treasurer

It was inevitable that I would get involved in The Llangollen Silver Band. Courting Albert for over 8 years, followed by our marriage of 43 years; and with having two sons who play instruments.

Our days and nights out usually ended somewhere where a Band was playing. How many young wives spent birthdays and anniversaries listening to Brass Band music as I once did.

I first took on the position of Band Treasurer in 1989 after Mr G.Owen the previous treasurer retired from the Nat West Bank in Llangollen; he was indeed a true friend to our cause. Later that same year I took over the position of Band Secretary too, when Trevor Williams stepped down as secretary whilst he covered Albert’s temporary retirement from conducting.

We first formed a ladies committee to help raise funds for the Band, and this I believe has been a great success, Gloria Williams and Margaret Lube along with myself were amongst the small band of helpers initially, but which has, since that time grown to include supporters of the Band, we have many supporters that have no family members playing but still give unstintingly of their time, and without whom we would now struggle to raise funds.

Local organisations and many supporters from Llangollen and the surrounding districts contribute to the many sales we organise, and again we are most grateful for this. Always available with a helping hand at functions and fund raising events (and I must say my thanks here) are Mrs Margaret Lube, Mrs Gwerfyl Roberts, Mrs Olga Roberts, and her husband (our President) Mr Tony Peder Roberts, and Mrs Beryl Jones.

My dream is to see my grandchildren some day play in the Band and if they carry on with the interest they are at present showing, this will not be long in coming.
